Chandragiri Fort Kasargod, Kerala

Built-in the 17th century, Chandragiri Fort is placed near the confluence of the Arabian Sea and River Payaswini. Commissioned by Sivappa Naik of Bedanore, Chandragiri Fort is among various forts built by the ruler on the top of a hill.

Once you reach the top, one can savor stunning views of the beautiful confluence of two large water bodies. If you visit the fort during the evenings, do not miss the amazing sunset views accessible from the old Kizhur State temple at the fort. This temple is also the annual venue of a festival named Pattu Utsavam.

On the bank of Chandragiri Fort, River Chandragiri was once the old border between the Tuluva Kingdom and Kerala. Near the fort is the longest railway tunnel in Kerala, traversing through Chandragiri hills.

• Chandragiri Cruises: Boat cruises are available to the nearby islands and lush palm groves. Visitors can go on-board the boat from the boarding point at Chandragiri Bridge.
• Chandragiri Boat Club: At the Chandragiri Boat Club, adults and children can enjoy island camping, speed boat rides, wildlife tours to the nearby wilderness and houseboat cruises. You can also ask the local fishermen near the bridge to give you a boat ride to the area’s backwaters.

How to Reach Chandragiri

The fort is located at a distance of 8 km from Bekal and 7 km from Kasaragod town. Regular bus services are available to the fort both from Bekal as well as Kasaragod.
